This may be "Exhibition year" for me. So far I have visited 6 Exhibitions this year ! (Those Exhibitions were - Mahalaxmi Saras 2015, Kala Ghoda Art Festival, Weaves Exhibition, Garvi Gujrat Exhibition, Grahak peth and last but definitely not the least - National Handloom Expo 2015).
National Handloom Expo 2015 held at Mumbai was organised by Maharashtra State Handlooms Corporation. (Source of Information). Sponsored by the ministry's development commissioner for handlooms and co-sponsored by the state textiles department, the event, the largest of its kind, provided a platform to poor handloom weavers to market their products, and helped to disseminate knowledge about contemporary designs and trends among weavers and others. Artisans from 16 states, including UP, Bihar, Haryana, Rajasthan, West Bengal, Orissa, Maharashtra, MP, Andhra, Karnataka, and Puducherry displayed their ware at the exhibition. A beautiful theme pavilion by Weavers Service Center was set up to educate visitors about the aspects of handlooms.

Weaving is one of the skills, maybe even an artform, that are very old and will always be important. It needs skilled workers to work the handwork machines. Thanks for showing.

Awesome. Lot of skill and hard work.
ReplyDeleteThey look really beautiful. Hard to see the level of depth and detail in the machines without colorful thread training the eye, but you got some wonderful shots.

Wonderful share! It must have been a fascinating exhibition! I have an 1840s loom similar to the one in your first pictures!
